‘Capture’ is the first stage, where the nature of the task and learning requirements are determined. A working relationship is established at this stage.

A thorough analysis of needs is done by observing the clients’ current learning situation and tasks to be completed.

The needs analysis includes:

  • Organization goals
  • Audience
  • Nature of tasks
  • Expectations

The existing material is carefully reviewed to identify the up gradations required. The learner characteristics are also analyzed to understand and create the type of ‘environment’ to fulfill the learning needs. This phase culminates in the TNA and Project Requirements Document (PRD) approved milestone.

After receiving the all the requirements such as voice of customer, materials and other collaterals, these are thoroughly analyzed.

In conceptualize phase, after consultations with the customer, the team creates ‘The Training Recommendations Report’ (TRR) and the E-Learning Documentation Plan.

The content of the clients’ modules is analyzed. Design specifications are created, which includes the analysis of objectives, test items, High Level Design Document for the course design, strategies for instruction delivery, and flowcharts to sequence the instruction.

This does not happen in isolation, as the Client and the SME are actively involved in this phase.

The culmination of this phase is the Low Level Design document or the lesson plan, which apart from content treatment, details the content gaps, if any.

The Lesson plan consists of:

  • Lesson-wise break-up
  • Learning objectives for each lesson
  • Detailed content coverage
  • Instructional design strategy
  • Evaluation criteria, types of activities for each learning unit
  • Duration of the lessons

The SME and the client approve the series of reports and interface ideas generated in this phase before development begins. This phase also includes the creation of a Style Guide, which will define the look and feel of the courseware.

The team drafts a master project plan, and a master project schedule. The master project plan describes how the application will be built, and the master project schedule describes when and in what order it will be built.

This phase culminates in the project plan/scope approved milestone.

The purpose of the design phase is to develop Storyboards and a Prototype.

As further research ensues, the content is reworked to fine-tune and create the scripts with sound Instructional Design Methodologies.

A team of subject matter experts, instructional designers, content writers, language experts, quality compliance team and evaluators ably support the content head in storyboard development process. Storyboards are the final output of this phase. These are subject to comprehensive internal review before they are forwarded to the client for review.

The next phase delivers a working prototype as a Proof of Concept of the system ready for usability testing and review

This phase culminates in the system prototype and storyboards approved milestone.

The purpose of this phase is to focus on building and testing the application. Here, the course assets are developed in parallel and are integrated into modules. This is the time when our graphics design team takes over. They are involved in transforming the storyboards online. The team works relentlessly to create a visual experience that translates into a lasting learner engagement. Our programmers chip in and use their expertise in creating interactivity and ensuring that the courses are SCORM compliant. The steps are:

  • Transfer of storyboards into the desired delivery method
  • Integrate assets to create course structure based on the designer’s requirements, and building navigation and page links based on customized templates
  • Test and validate the instruction to ensure that the course accomplishes all goals and objectives. In addition, C&K performs testing prior to final delivery to ensure a bug-free solution
  • Publish courses from a single location and to selected delivery medium using Moodle LMS, once courses are approved and ready for implementation
  • Utilize authoring tools to publish course content into formats required by the client

The purpose of this phase is to test the application in a natural environment.

  • C&K conducts ongoing evaluations
  • A select audience goes through the course to test for usability and ensure that the course is truly designed with the learner in mind
  • Revisions are made based on evaluation feedback
  • Revisions are reviewed and approved by the senior Instructional Designer assigned to the project
  • Resolves outstanding issues
  • Completes documentation for the project
  • Transitions knowledge to the customer

This phase culminates in the English version with application release milestone.
